Why are you Greeted Happy Birthday When you Dress Red?

In the Philippines expect, when you go around wearing red, to be greeted Happy Birthday!. Why is this so?

I remember having worn a red shirt that i was greeted a Happy Birthday by more than two individuals. I took it seriously and retorted immediately that they are wrong. Later, i came to know that wearing red connotes a dress worn by birthday celebrants.

Tracing back the culture of red, in some cultures, red denotes celebration. Red is the color of happiness and prosperity in China and may be used to attract good luck.Red is often the color worn by brides in the East while it is the color of mourning in South Africa.

So this explains it. The next time that you will be greeted happy birthday by people you will meet along the way and it is not your birthday, simply shrug it off and smile.
