The Filipinos are once again victorious over the winning of Manny Pacquaio in his fight with American boxer Diaz.  The 12- round bout ended on the 9th round with Diaz on a knock-out from a super punch hurled by left- handedPacquaio. He is such a power fighter but a kind-hearted one.  He looks worried when Diaz knocked down as it is always his  prayer to start every fight with nobody getting seriously hurt in the end.

The clock stopped for Filipinos to watch, over Manny's fight with Diaz, at the GMA Channel that help a replay of the game. He is now a 4-time champion and he deserves indeed to be called a pound-for-pound king. The boxing was held at Las Vegas, yesterday. Congratulations, idol!

Knowledge in modern information technology is a must. It has a wide range of applicability in places such as offices, hospitals, banks, in homes and in any workplaces. I was just lucky that in my office, there were free trainings for IT users, and i happen to be one of the chosen participants in some of these trainings. I admit these trainings helped me a lot in my career growth and success. With actual practice, eventually my IT skills were somehow honed. But, there are still a lot of things i need to know, however, there are rare chances that i could be sent to IT upgrading trainings considering my supervisory position, which does not need anymore technical know-hows on information technologies.

Recently, I came across a website that promotes IT certification.  I got so interested because it talks about Cisco certification  after subscribing to their widely respected IT certification programs. There are training resources to be chosen online. The learning approaches depend upon the selected program.  Cisco offers three levels of general IT certification: Associate, Professional, and Expert (CCIE representing the highest level of achievement).  Examinations are made through the prestigious Pearson Vue Testing centers.

It is great to be IT certified through Cisco Career Certification.  It surely would bring valuable, measurable rewards to network professionals, to individuals, to employers and to the organization they will be involved  in as a whole.

Leyteños became one in celebrating the Pintados Festival here in Leyte. Early in the morning delegates from all over Leyte flocked in Tacloban for the Pintados parade. Since 1986 this was celebrated here in Tacloban. Why do we celebrate the Pintados? What is it all about?

Pintados festival is a dance festival of painted dancers celebrating important events like exploits of war, nature worship in narrative dance movements depicting their own folk practices and beliefs. The custom of tattooing earned for the Leyteños the name of Pintados.

The parade did not took much time to paralyze the transportation and traffic of commuters. It is one of the problems posed during festival celebrations here.

Good news to all bloggers out there!  Promote your blog and keep your audience informed in the form of a newsletter.  The newsletter of your latest blog posts may be directly sent to your visitors inbox daily, weekly, or monthly.  What a way to drive traffic to your blog with your own newsletter. And guys, this is only possible through Zookoda, an email marketing application designed specifically for bloggers.

When i first started to blog honestly i did not know about search engine things and driving traffic to blog.  As time flies, i realized the importance of making regular postings to attract new readers and encourage regular visitors to return to my blogs.  The problem is, once i have posted new content to my blog, there is little (RSS) to no way of informing visitors that its time to revisit my blog.   I only have limited time to blog hop and in effect i get limited bloggers to view my posts. Zookoda is a great way to promote new content to visitors, encouraging them to return when i have new posts. And oh, this service of Zookoda is all FREE!  I find this very interesting and helpful.

Zookoda enables bloggers to manage email newsletter subscribers. Accepting, verifying and managing email subscriptions can be a time consuming business, something a blogger really doesn't have time for. Knowing this, Zookoda takes care of all email subscriptions.

Zookoda also enhances one's blog with custom newsletter subscription forms. Bloggers are enabled to create their own templates, include images in design and rearrange blog content.

Once the right email design is decided, broadcast follows. Broadcasts within Zookoda can either be one-off (entering a specific date and time), or recurring, it can be sent out each day, week or month.

Finally, Zookoda offers real-time reports to ensure bloggers are well informed about the email success and visitor habits. Each email is tracked during delivery, providing an open, bounce and click through information.Zookoda also manages all your unsubscribes and keeps track of these within your mailing list.

Tacloban has a very festive air as it nears its June 30 fiesta. In the day, the plazas are with many trade fairs, almost all stores have the fiesta sale and everywhere buntings in technicolors hang overboard along streets.  At night, it seems the people don't sleep at all. There are many shows to watch upon, dances and musicals.  Famous local singers like Sheryn Regis, Jose Mari Chan, Jolina Magdangal and others have been here to stage shows.

Last night, my kids had a great night at the carnival. They enjoyed the rides, shows and games.

Arjay (left) and Arjan (right) in the horseride. Ironically, at the entrance they asked money and bought these stuff they are wearing : horn for arjay and necklace with lighting cross pendant for Arjan.

This was the most spectacular show i ever saw live. Its the "Wall of Death". I was scared and all the time hold my breath for this magnificent man who drives the motorcycle around and up the wall. He later drove the toyota car and did the same driving up and around the wall. Whew, it was so dangerous, but he was a real pro! Bravo to him, my ticket to the show was surely worth it and even more.

The competition between the feuding politcal personalities in Tacloban and Leyte somehow brings good shows here and there in an effort to outsmart one from the other. Well, i wish this will only be a healthy competition, not one which would bring death doom.

Gee, Tacloban City will be celebrating its annual fiesta in honor of its patron saint,Sto. Niño in June 30.  Customarily, a Pintados Festival which Tacloban is known for is used to be held on June 29.  Since 1986, this festival has been celebrated every year, but this year they are moving it earlier to the 27th of June, 2 days earlier than the usual date which has been observed. The Pintados Foundation deem it proper to give way to the new Pasangyaw Festival which will be participated in reportedly by various festivals coming from the various cities of the country.

Uhm, i smell some confusion in here.  It is public knowledge that there exist some political bickerings and balderdash between and among the political leaders of Tacloban and Leyte which may have led to the giving in of Pintados to Pasangyaw. Anyway, whatever it is,  i just hope that the people will not be confused of the real essence of this fiesta which is to honor the patron saint of Tacloban.

Typhoon "Frank" hit my place! Actually, it was the nearby island where the eye of the storm was seen. But last Friday, signal No. 3 was hoisted, too in my place. Due to proximity of the typhoon, my place was badly affected. But, not much damage to my house, except for the ceiling on one side of the house, which was blown away by the strong winds. Damage to infrastructure and agriculture is great. It cost lives, too.

The aftermath of the typhoon left us with no electricity, dead telephone lines and worst of all no water. Four electric posts with two of these containing transformers were blown down the reason why we had no electricity till yesterday. The telephone lines have already been restored but water is still of low pressure. As i am writing this, there is not a water dropping from our faucets since last night.

I am glad everything is back to normal. Back to bloggin again, folks!

Ces Drilon, ABS-CBNs journalist who was abducted by the Abu Sayaffs, was finally freed after ten days of captivity. A certain mayor mediated between the government and the Abu Sayyaff, which finally led to the release of the Ces along with the two professors.

The government sticks with a no-ransom policy. From a layman's point of view, i ask these things, why there they freed, in exchange of what, would they just be freed without any money considerations at all? I am a layman with a simple understanding of things. I am not againt Ces release, as a matter of fact i am happy that at last she was freed, but i just find it simply hard to believe that there was no ransom paid in exchange of their release.

Now that mayor is in hot waters, as he is being alleged of having a hand in the kidnapping. Tsk, tsk, the government is maybe just too lax on these bandits.

For almost 18 years that i have been working in the government, the most enjoyable parts, i should say, are the travels outside my work assignment.  I had all my firsts when i work in the government, first time to ride in an airplane, first to cross the island across where i live, first time to go to the beautiful spots in the Philippines, first time to travel across all islands in the Philippines and first time to be accomodated in plosh hotels.

In a few of the plosh hotels, i enjoyed so much the fine dining, the relaxing massage in the spas, and shopping when there are any shopping stores.  I have to be honest that i feel rich when i am in plosh hotels, wishing always that i am with my children.  I wanted them to enjoy the same luxury as what i am enjoying.  For the past three years now, i always make it a point to give them a getaway every summertime.  I bring them to plosh hotels, at least, for an overnight stay so they can enjoy fine dining and the big swimming pool they want to splash on.

I have accessed in the net about hotels in london and the  london hotel breaks. Wow, its the kind of hotel i am looking for my shortbreaks. It offers weekend glof breaks, health and beauty spas, holiday hotspot, shopping breaks, theatre and walking breaks. Wow, i can't wait to be in any of the hotels at and spend holiday there with my children.

Mother nature is threatening a calamity.  A storm signal number no. 1 is hoisted in Eastern Samar and Leyte and the whole of Eastern visayas.  It has been raining constantly since 5pm this afternoon.  I just hope that this "Frank" typhoon will come to pass out in the country without leaving any trace  of havoc behind.

I want to be nostalgic now.  Wanted to bring back memories of the past when i was still in my on-the-job training for this field postion that i have now.  We were required to go on bivoac or a hike over the mountain top of mount makiling in laguna. The hike uphill was difficult and slow, we trod the long route and as we were climbing uphill my ears wee soar. The altitude was already high.

In our way down, five of us went downhill and trodded a different route.  One of my batchmates lead the way. Trusting that he knew the way we followed him. We passed through the woods enjoyed the sight of the birds, trees and wildflowers.  Two hours passed and we noticed we were lost in the woods.  We badly needed a location map to lead us out of the confusion in the woods.  Luckily, after 3 hours we found our way out when we could have done it in less than an hour, supposedly.

Nowadays, i won't get inside the woods or in any place without location maps or  digital maps. Companies now are selling location maps with services including, digital mapping, map printing and online mapping for both the UK and Global markets.  I have looked at and i am convinced of their expertise in maps.

Keychains, again! Keychains collection is my hobby.  I love to collect keychains from all nations.  I don't have many as of yet. Today, I received a parcel from the postal office.  Three keychains were in the parcel as a birthday gift from a special friend from New Jersey.  I could not contain my happiness.  I was so grateful enough for the keychains, and of course for the other gifts i received for me and for my elder son.  One day, i am gonna post a picture here of my keychain collections.

A basketball court will be put up by a friendly neighbor just near here for their sports recreation.  I am happy for it because my sons are hooked into this basketball sports.

An idle lot was utilized for this basketbal court. Well, a few hundred pesos i shell out from my pocket for the  steel materials will not hurt much.  I wanted my sons to learn how to play basketball.  It is a way of diverting their attention from whatever bad influences there may be around.

I featured about proper teeth brushing in my yesterday's post.  Now, i will add more about proper dental care.

Just before brushing use an anti-plaque rinse.  It loosens plaque and makes brushing more effective. Mouth rinsing helps eliminate plaques in brushing.

Well, one does not need to be born with a beautiful smile. What one needs are beautiful teeth.

Saturday, June 14, 2008

Caring for the teeth is very important.  It should be a hobby instilled in children and started while they are still young.  Proper brushing should be taught to save the teeth and to save on mommy's wallet.  Dental care treatment is costly.

I brought my son this morning to the dentist.  His two front teeth needed filling.  They oftentimes forget to brush teeth especially when i am not around to prod them.  I learned from the dentist that non-brushing or brushing but not made in the proper way causes cavities to destroy the teeth.

Here are tips on proper brushing, according to the dentist:

1.  Hold the toothbrush just under the gumline at a 45-degree angle.  Gently jiggle the brush or move in tiny circles over the teeth snd gums.  Repeat for each tooth.
2.  Brush the inside of tooth using the same jiggling motion as in no. 1.
3.  For the chewing surfaces, use a high back and forth motion.
4.  Finally, massage the gums with fingers and gently brush tongue, too.

It isn't too late to learn the proper way of brushing teeth.

Filipino Songs That Touch the Patriotic Sense of Filipinos

This morning before the short activity in my office was started, to commemorate the 11oth Philippine Independence, nationalisitc songs were played over the public address system.  I identified two songs like "Ako ay Pilipino" and "Ang Bayan Kong Pilipinas" among many other songs.  The lyrics and tune of the songs were so meaningful that i noticed everybody's sense of patriotism was touched.  Some were teary-eyed as they sang the Lupang Hinirang while the flag was hoisted.  Songs really have that magic touch in the senses of every man.  At that time, i was sure that everybody was united, political bickerings were momentarily forgotten and personal aggrandizement among elected officials were set aside. I salute the composers of these nationalistic songs.

In the spate of abduction of journalist Ces Drilon of ABS-CBN, Philippines will be in the midst of global skepticisms again over its peace and order condition and the security of its foreign tourists who flock, and who will plan to visit the country for investments or for leisure spending. Just when tourism was having a significant contribution to Philippine economy, this saddening news will be like a cold splash. Ces Drilon, along with two others, was purportedly abducted by the Abu Sayaffs in the Sulu area in Mindanao.

In the papers, this abduction will be magnified and sensationalized making it appear like Philippines is not a safe place to come by. But, hey, Philippines is not just Sulu or Mindanao area. There are a lot more places here that are beautiful and safe to visit. And, as always, wherever place or country to visit, security can not be left to chance. Authorities shall have to be coordinated with to secure proper guidance and protection. After all, it is always best to be secured.

Alternative to Computer Systems

Computers are considered to be of great use at home, offfices or businesss establishments. Its sytem is proven to be expedient in processing, storing and analyzing various documents.  Many are dependent on it.  In fact, my school has adopted the local area network (lan) connection, which can access documents from one department to another.  They have instaled this enrollment system with the end view of fast tracking enrollment and of providing comfort to students, saving them the hassle of walking from the graduate school to the administrative department which is quiet far.

However, the school encountered a computer problem this afternoon and unlucky me because i was affected. Was supposed to enroll but i have to go back again tomorrow because their server went off. The school obviously have no alternative courses of action if things like bogging down of server happens.   They are not practicing what they preach.  This is not at all management.  Anyway, i have no choice but to go back there again for my enrollment.

It is an irony that summertime is over here in the Philippines while it is only starting in the US. Supposedly, today was the first day of classes but due to the President's rationalization of holidays policy, the June 12 holiday was instead made today, June 9 as an extension of the weekends.  So, tomorrow will be the start of rush days.  Everybody is expected to wake up early, especially the mothers and students, and prepare everything to be early for school.

Some changes will have to be made in my and children's schedule.  After office, i shall have to be home to see to it that assignments will be made by my two sons.  And tutoring, too if they can't do their homeworks by themselves.  For my kids, they will miss their weekdays TV programs as i will ban TV viewing during classes days.  Friday nights until Sunday they can watch TV but only up to 5pm on Sundays.  I have to do this as part of instilling discipline on their study habits.

Always having a periodic check on gas stoves for possible gas leaking is always important.  I never knew how important it is than just now.  There was a hose leaking in the gas stove connecting to the liquified petroleum gas.  Due to wear and tear, the hose had some perforations without my knowing it.  When niece opened it to cook rice, she never noticed that behind the stove it was also flaming. Good that my laundrywoman came in the kitchen and noticed the fire flaring behind the stove.  Trembling, she hurriedly turned off the stove, the gas tank and put in a wet rag to the already conflagrating hose.  In all these, my niece never noticed what was happening in the kitchen. I was squirming while she narrated the story. It happened eleven days ago.  All my niece told me while i was in the office was the hose of the gas stove needed to be replaced as it was just noticed by her to be leaking. I bought a replacement right away after i got home that day.  Never knew that had it not been for my laundrywoman, my children's lives would have been endangered and my house would have burned down.

I read that it is ideal to replace the gas stove hose and gas regulator every two years.  I will always remember this, so as not to endanger again my children's lives and properties.

Teaching, A Very Rewarding Profession

Teachers will be going back to work again this coming June 10 here.  This week most of them have been back in their classrooms in preparation for the school opening.

Teaching is very rewarding profession.  Molding and shaping the future of the children as the hope of the land, lies in their hands.  They create doctors, nurses, teachers, engineers, businessmen, dentists, mechanics, electricians and other professionals in the challenging field of local if not global competition.  Day and night teachers work.  During election periods, their lives are at stake in preserving democracy. Teaching may not be a lucrative profession but it is a very productive one.

The first day of school is a very critical day for them.  According to Harry Wong, author of the "First Day of School", the first day spells what the classroom would be for the entire year.

What a tragedy it was for a Spanish twin to be separated from her family for 28 years for a mix up at the maternity hospital which led to her being taken home by the wrong mother.

Over Yahoo news today, I could not help but empathize with the affected families of this ridiculous hospital malpractice. It is such a miracle that after 28 years the woman will unveil her true identity and be united with her biological roots.

The woman discovered she had an identical twin when she was mistaken for someone else in a shop in 2001.

They were born in the same hospital in 1973 around the same time and a DNA test subsequently showed they were identical twins. It was traced that during that day there were 60 babies delivered.

The woman is suing the hospital for 3 million euros ($4.7 million) for emotional trauma.

I am with her on this legal move. I know she will win on this case.

In increase of physical activities and other stressful situations especially by old people, to alcoholic drinkers and habitual antacid takers, it is ideal to take in Vitamin B.

Vit B functions as an anti-neuritic factor. It is a co-enzyme converting carbohydrate into energy in the nerve tissues, muscles and heart. It is necessary for proper metabolism of sugar and starch to provide energy. It improves mental attitude, too. To children, Vit B promotes growth.

We have abundant food sources of Vit B. It includes blackstrap molasses, bran, brewer's Yeast, eggs, corn, meats, especially pork, liver, oatmeal, raw nuts, soybeans and soybean products, such as tofu, wheat germ, milk, whole brown rice and whole wheat.

Our body should not lack Vit B as it is responsible also for the brain and nervous function. It helps in treating indigestion as well.

To know the symptoms if we lack Vit B in our body, we usually experience digestive upsets, fatigue, impairment of memory, loss of appetite, nausea and muscle weakness. I am happy to have known these facts for myself after i Yahoo search.

Why is the month of June Known as the month of Marriage?

Traditionally, June is the most popular month for weddings. It is attributed to the ancient Roman goddess named Juno and to the greek goddess Hera.

Mythology studies reveal that Juno was the Roman goddess of marriage. Many Romans chose to honor her by tying the knot in June. This tradition, like other traditions, has been handed down from generation to generation.

Aside from Juno here is another explanation why June is such a popular wedding month. Couples often marry in June so they could time the conception of their first child. This way, the wife wouldn't be too far along in her pregnancy to perform the manual labor required during harvest time. Romantic, eh?

And here is another different theory. Apparently, during the 1400s and 1500s, people took their "annual bath" during May. In effect, the over-all population was smelling "relatively fresh" in June, which makes it a good time to bond and be married.

Whatever the reason, it's worth noting that June might not be the most popular month for weddings anymore. Anytime of the year can be a lucky month for married people. The solidarity of marriage depends upon the bride and the bridegroom. After all, it takes two to tango.

Party Here and Everywhere

Every nook and corner of each barangay, i passed through in my way home tonight, was having a celebration. Yeah, it is because of the Grand Santacruzan, the culmination of the Flores de Mayo. Parents and children gathered to enjoy whatever activities the organizers have prepared for the night. And they share on the food, which is either prepared by the host or brought along by each family. Tomorrow, each child will miss the nightly novena at the chapel. They will have to wait again for next year to witness and indulge in the funfares and religious undertakings of the Flores de Mayo.
