The power of social media is going stronger than ever. Many social media platforms like google, yahoo, facebook, twitter, and instagram among others have been so easy to access that almost everybody in my country, the Philippines, has either one of these mentioned platforms installed in their mobile gadgets. Having such social media applications make it easy to do a job and deal with other people in whatever way. It is considered as the best source to know the things that are happening in the place of work, with friends, in the locality, country and in the world. Its benefits have mostly benefited and favored countless of people in more ways than one. Social media platforms is such so powerful that it greatly influence peoples thoughts and ideas in both positive and negative ways. However, there are claims that it has been more of a bane than a boon to mankind. To name a few it causes anxiety, poor self-esteem, causes damage or injury to relationships such as marriage and friendship and worst it is a detriment to the society at large.
Yesterday, I inadvertently left my mobile phone and was near the venue of my seminar when I came to know about the missing gadget. I felt having a separation that I had to drive the car back home to get my mobile phone. I know many others who feel the same way when they are separated from their mobile phones. Recently, I made a resolve to stop stalking or snooping on my contacts posted messages or posted photos, although sometimes I can not stop the feeling, because I feel inadequate and jealous of their achievements. I though feel happy for them most of the times, too. It is just that I can not help but have a low self-esteem. My office demands my time to be on facebook or in yahoo to check on reports and google drives for on time and easy submission of reports. My ranting will continue for ever but I need to stop lest no one will bother to read my post. I just have to accept this is the way things are now. Self-discipline is much required in this time of age otherwise these gadgets, social media platforms will take over the lives of people, negatively.
